Reception

We have one Reception class with upto 30 children. Our Reception class is taught by Mrs Louisa Riley. She is supported by an Early Years Practitioner, Mrs Yagana Ezame. The Reception class is based on the St Paul’s Site.

We plan our curriculum using the revised Development Matters document, with activities linked to half termly themes. Examples of our themes include: Nursery Rhymes and Traditional Tales, Mythical and Magical, Superheroes and Life Cycles and Living Things. We also use the children’s interests and home experiences to develop learning opportunities. We take the children out into the local area as often as possible and plan a number of exciting trips to places of interest wider afield, for example The Tower of London and the farm. At Christmas the children enjoy a visit to our local theatre to see the Christmas play.

Our daily timetable is flexible with a mix of adult directed, whole class teaching sessions and independent learning times. Children are encouraged to be independent in their choice of activity, both inside and outside and to select, use and tidy away their own resources. The children are free to move between the classroom and the garden during their independent learning time. We have daily phonics sessions, using the Read Write Inc phonics scheme, and a weekly PE session in the main school hall. We actively take part in whole school events including St Paul’s Week, Book Day and Sports Day.
