School sports premium

The School Sports Premium is a direct funding initiative supported by central government. The aim is to provide ring-fenced funding to enhance the quality of sports provision in primary schools and to encourage greater participation in sport and physical activity.

Amongst other things, schools can spend this funding on:

  • Staff training and curriculum development.
  • Employing sports coaches to enhance provision.
  • Providing extra-curricular sports activities.
  • Participating in inter-schools competition.

Schools are held accountable for their spending of the Sports Premium through inspection and through the statutory requirement to publish an annual report on spending and impact. Our school’s report is available at the foot of this page.
