The Midnight Fox
In Year 6 English we have started exploring a new book called 'The Midnight Fox' by Betsy Byars. The book starts with a boy called Tom whose parents send him to a family farm for 2 months whilst they go on a once-in-a-lifetime holiday. Tom, a homebody who has never left the city, is already dreading the visit and is imagining all sorts of horrors happening to him (most involving chickens seeking revenge for stolen eggs!).
The children really seem to be enjoying the text so far and we have had a lot of interesting discussions about the characters and whether we think Tom will ever like the farm.
For one of our lessons this week we created freeze frames to represent different parts of the story so far, including Tom saying goodbye to his parents. We also completed a whole class freeze frame where each child had to act as Tom, thinking carefully about facial expression and body language.
