The children in 3C were busy understanding that poems are written for different reasons, and recognising how a poet uses poetry as a voice to express their own feelings and views. Poetry is a form of expression. First, the children performed the poems ‘The Power of Poets’ and ‘The Red Carpet’. Following that, they wrote great poems by looking at examples of some scenes depicted in paintings and photographs: Pierre-Auguste Renoir: Writing Lesson, Henry Ossawa Tanner, The Banjo Lesson, David Hockney and My Parent.

Reading and writing poetry makes the children think of new ideas, and can also dramatically change the way they perceived old ones. It is a way to process experiences, visual descriptions, and emotions. Poetry can have a positive impacts on the social and emotional learning of children. Poetry can also help children develop a more acute sense of empathy.
