Victorian Crime and Punishment

Today, 5//6K spent the afternoon focusing on our key question for the week; 'How did the Victorians reform the criminal system in Britain?'

The children learned about how the police force came into existence, thanks in large part to the efforts of Sir Robert Peel and about the types of punishments people who committed criminal activity received. The children then got to act as judges in a Victorian court of law. They received a set of 'court files' detail crimes people might have committed and had to discuss and decide what kind of Victorian punishments each one should be given
