Rocks in 3H

Posted by Mrs Heyhoe on 24/11/23 at 04:02 PM

In Science this half term, 3H have been learning about rocks. The children used magnifying glasses to examine the rocks and decided how to group the rocks according to their simple physical properties (for example, rocks with crystals, rocks with fossils, volcanic rocks etc.)

The children have also been learning how fossils form and they each made an ammonite fossil. They weighed the flour and measured the water to make their own salt dough. They also learned that ammonites are extinct shellfish related to today’s squids and octopuses, which died out 66 million years ago, at the time of the dinosaurs.
