5/6L are ‘Percussion Pros’!

5/6L had a great Curriculum Enrichment Day this week. The theme was 'Junk Percussion'. We began the day by listening to different styles of music and responding with words, images, patterns and colours before sharing our opinions. After that we learnt about the musical group 'Stomp', who use reused materials to make incredibles rhythms. The children were very impressed and then excited to have a go at their own examples.

They were using either glue sticks, pencils, whiteboards, paper or cups to make a rhythm and could change the volume and tempo on signal. The children then worked in pairs to create their own rhythm storyboard before some were performed by the class.

In the afternoon we learnt about how different items can be reused and repurposed. The class were tasked with creating their own design for a sculpture or object made from a range of usually recycled or wasted items. The inventions were very creative!

To end the day we had a fantastic Junk Percussion workshop where we learnt some new rhythms and layered instruments ranging from bins to baking trays. But the end of the session the children had really picked it up and their enthusiasm was lovely to see.
