3M Have a Rockin’ Time

Last week, 3M went to the Natural History museum to enrich our learning about rocks and minerals. We explored an exhibit of marine reptile fossils found on Lyme Regis, many of which were found by famous historical fossil hunter, Mary Anning.

We also saw beautiful ammonite fossils, giant gemstones and minerals that looked like they would be soft and fuzzy to the touch.

In the afternoon we took part in a Fossil Dig workshop. Like real palaeontologists do, we used brushes to gently uncover dinosaur skull fossils. We worked on our scientific observation and reasoning skills. We used a reference sheet and a measuring tape to determine which of the four skulls we thought we had uncovered. Every group identified their skull correctly!

We had a great time and learned a lot. We want to go back to visit the other exhibits!
