Year 1 have been beginning to understand the importance of Black History month in the UK. We discussed what it was like for people of colour in the past and how it still affects them today. We looked at the poem The Bronze Woman and thought about how she would be feeling as a free woman. We then looked at important black British women and focused on Nicola Adams. The children learned about her dedication to boxing and how she has made her country proud by being the first woman to ever win gold in the Olympics. The children then made posters to encourage people to go watch her boxing.
