Parent Coffee Morning

Posted by Mrs Heyhoe on 18/05/23 at 11:21 AM

This year, we have been running regular coffee mornings for parents of pupil premium children in Years 1 and 2.

We have talked about the importance of reading at home with your child and filling in the red reading journal to encourage parent/teacher communication around reading.  We played bingo and looked at the top 100 most used words in the English language.  We have also talked a lot about different languages and cultures.  The school gave out free bilingual books and English books to everyone who came.

We have also looked at playing maths games with your child at home (card games, Connect 4, Shut the Box, snakes and ladders).  The parents were always brilliant at coming up with their own ideas and talked about activities that they do at home.  We have also discussed many of the challenges of being a parent - one of the hardest and most important jobs in the world!

Today, we had fun learning how to make a book.  If you would like some ideas for make books at home with your child, click here.

Thank you to Spire cafe for providing such a relaxed and welcoming space for us.
