The Power of Books!

In 6J we enjoy reading time every afternoon. It is a chance to catch up with our favourite authors and get lost in an adventure or mystery story! As well as reading in school, it is very important that the children take the time to read at home. Although many children read independently at this age, it is also important that children share their reading with an adult at home too. They don’t need to read to somebody (although that is always welcome), they can share what they have read, discuss favourite characters or make predictions about the plot.

If you are not sure about the type of question to ask about your child’s reading to encourage understanding, there is a guide in the front of their red reading record. Please ensure that they are completing an entry in their record regularly (daily is ideal) and that there is a parental comment once a week. I love reading feedback about books from parents and adults alike! If you have any questions about any aspect of your child’s reading, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
