A ‘WONDER-ful’ class reader

“I know I’m not an ordinary ten-year-old kid…”

6KL have voted to read ‘Wonder’ as our next class reader. It is a heart-warming story about a young boy called August who has a rare facial deformity. He is attending school for the first time and the story takes us through his initial fears; budding friendships and obstacles along the way to feeling included. All of this is told in an honest but sometimes funny way. The book promotes kindness and includes lots of motivational quotes for life. So far our favourite is: ‘When given the choice between being right and being kind, choose kind.’ What does that mean to you?

Year 6 seem to be enjoying it so far and we have had lots of discussions about August’s first day at school and the people he has encountered so far. We are looking forward to seeing what happens next and hope it turns out well for Auggie!
