6L’s 3rd Sayers Croft Day
We had another great day.
We started with a fascinating ‘World War 2” walk, where we learned about Sayers Croft’s role during the war as an evacuation centre for boys from a local secondary school. We sat in the surviving bomb shelter, listened to air raid sirens and imagined the emotions the children of the past would have experienced.
After that, we worked together in teams to make catapults. Then we aimed water-soaked sponges at the teachers!
In the afternoon, we took part in a difficult team challenge, where we had to work and communicate with each other to be able to cross an obstacle course successfully. When excitedly talking over each other didn’t work, we practised letting one person at a time speak, so that all ideas could be heard.
Then, we went up high in the sky! We were connected to strong wire ropes though, so don’t worry. We were scared but faced our fears. We learned that bravery isn’t the absence of fear, it is feeling the fear and still doing what you need to do.
After dinner we completed an EGG CHALLENGE. Groups were given an egg to take care of and then had to create some sort of covering to protect it. Mr Kearney then dropped them and we saw which coverings were effective!
