6KL’s Traffic Lights

6KL have really enjoyed applying our learning in our Electricity unit to create our own set of working traffic lights. The children had to make their own switches then build a complex circuit to connect it all together. From there they made their traffic light shape and attached their circuit to each light.

Part of the challenge was to be able to switch on a red, amber and green light individually, but then also try to have a red and green man working simultaneously. For example, when the red traffic light was on, the green man would also switch on. They also had to consider the equipment used, such as the bulb voltage.

It was not an easy project but the class worked fantastically on it and showed great resilience, teamwork and problem-solving skills. It also shows how much they have understood about circuits. We are so proud of our final traffic lights and many of them work exactly as they should!
