2V Learn All About Patricia Bath

As part of our celebration of Black History Month, 2V learned all about Patricia Bath this afternoon. Born in 1942 in Harlem, New York City, she grew up passionate about science and helping people.

She became an ophthalmologist (someone who specialises in vision care) and worked hard to bring eye care to everybody, as she believed sight is a human right. In 1986, she invented a special laser to remove cataracts.

Her work has prevented many people from becoming blind.

We talked about how we would describe Patricia Bath and we agreed that some good descriptors are ‘determined’, ‘caring’ and ‘creative’, all wonderful things that we should strive to be.
