Year 5 Natural History Muesum Trip
Year 5 enjoyed a wonderful day out at the Natural History museum. The children were able to explore the many different aspects of history and take a final look at ‘Dippy’, (diplodocus) the Natural History Museum’s beloved dinosaur cast, who is to be moved from his spot where he has greeted members of the public since 1979 and will be replaced by a blue whale skeleton (largest mammal in the world).
Next we entered the ecology gallery and explored the connections between all living things and their environments. Alongside finding out how you can live more responsibly on the planet.
Afterwards we journeyed excitedly into the centre of the Earth. On arrival we began to explore the epic forces that shape our planet; volcanoes, plate tectonics and earthquakes. We are currently studying South America - earthquakes (plate tectonics) and volcanoes (Ring of Fire) in Topic and this trip really helped the children to gain a deeper understanding.
Finally in the Vault we were dazzled by the most rare, unique and valuable treasures. The magnificent gems on show include collections of famous diamonds, the finest gems, crystals, metals and meteorites from all around the world.
Overall the children enjoyed themselves immensely and as always, a huge thank you to our parent helpers.
