Plant hunting in 3H!

On Tuesday, 3H went on a plant hunt. They discovered that the 6 silver birch trees in the school playground are native to the UK. They also found out that the English ivy growing up the fence is a native plant.

The children learnt that the daffodil and lavender plants in the playground are not native to the UK - they were brought here by the Romans. The Romans planted daffodils in memory of comrades fallen in battle. They used lavender to dress battle wounds, cook and wash with.

They discovered that the eucalyptus tree outside outside 3M’s classroom is also not a native plant. Eucalyptus seeds were brought to Kew in 1774 all the way from Australia!
